Girls Inc. offers two year-round programs which provide both after-school and summer curriculum for girls age 6-18. At our Crestwood Center, we serve girls from in and around the Birmingham area. Through a partnership with Jonesboro Elementary School, we also provide center-based programs and instruction to girls in Bessemer. In addition, we host a summer program in Walker County. Our areas of concentration include:
| Science | English |
| Math | Life Skills |
| Technology | Cooking & Sewing |
| Career Development | Art |
| Economic Literacy | Sports |
At Girls Inc., we pride ourselves on offering affordable, high quality after-school and summer programs. With a focus on education and empowerment, we offer much more than just a safe and friendly environment for girls.
Girls Inc. Programming
- provides professionally-trained educators.
- bases curriculum on high-quality, national evaluation research.
- focuses on gender equity.
- addresses key issues like health and wellness, economic literacy, and career preparedness.
- allows girls to build lasting relationships with educators and other girls through regular and long-term programs.
- develops and grows with girls across four age groups.
- encourages older and younger girls to connect through role modeling.
- provides opportunities for girls to work with a number of adults with a variety of skills.
- reaches many girls, regardless of ethnicity or family income level.
Our popular center-based programs fill up quickly and reach capacity each summer. Because many of our members return year after year, they build strong bonds with one another and with our staff. Projects like the building and care of our Organic Garden, a photography class with the Birmingham Museum of Arts Photography Guild, and our newly launched Teen Initiative keep our members excited and active.
