Southern Research was back last week to lead our girls in another hands-on STEM experiments!
January is National Mentoring Month, established by the National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) to highlight and promote the positive difference mentors make in the lives of young people. Quality mentoring relationships are a critical asset for young people, providing them attention, support, and new possibilities and perspectives.
Girls Inc. of Central Alabama will be represented on the Stakeholder Committee for the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham's, Young Women's Initiative. We cannot wait to see how this initiative changes lives in Birmingham!

The Cool and Confident Workshop was an all-day workshop for girls 12-14 years of age and their mothers and “other mothers” (grandmothers, aunts, etc.). We offered an intimate setting of honest communication within a safe environment, in order to discussion issues impacting teenage girls on a daily basis.
This month we held another "Young Latinas Lead" session. The topic was on college preparation with the focus on ACT testing. We held a practice test for the high school girls and had a question and answer session for their families.
