This summer, Girls Inc. of Central Alabama Crestwood Center Summer Camp was honored to enjoy two days of learning through a Health Fair hosted by the UAB School of Nursing. Both BSN and Accelerated MSN Nursing students enrolled in the Maternal Child Course at UAB fulfilled a project that was geared towards teaching a pertinent subject to a pediatric audience. The UAB School of Nursing instructor, Ms. Sherita Etheridge, MSN, PNP-PN (also a Girls Inc. alumna) selected Girls Inc. – Crestwood Center as the audience. Over the course of two days, July 1st and July 19th, Girls Inc. campers rotated through the different stations/presentations given by the nursing students in the Girls Inc. Multi-Purpose Room. Topics included Sleep Hygiene, Stress & Anxiety, Building Confidence, Bike Safety, Healthy Desserts, Bullying, Water Safety and much more. The campers were thrilled and engaged to learn from the very informative nursing students. By the end of the experience, campers were asking nursing students for autographs, giving hugs, and feeling inspired by the information given and kindness shown. Many thanks to the 75 students from the UAB School of Nursing, who shared valuable information to our campers. Our girls left the Health Fair stronger, smarter and bolder.
