On Saturday, October 21st, Girls Inc. of Central Alabama held our “Jovenes Latinas Lideran.” We had a great turn out, there were over 25 high school girls and their parents attend our ACT prep workshop.
After discussing a brief introduction of Girls Inc. programs, the girls separated from their parents to take part in breakout sessions. The parents attended a question and answer session in Spanish regarding college and the process of applying to college. While the girls took part in a similar question and answer session in a separate room, they spent time discussing the difference between the ACT and the SAT as well as how they should prepare for taking the test. Then it came time for the girls to actually take a practice ACT test. This experience is essential for the girls to be able to get an understanding and a feel for the test in order to mentally prepare for taking the test when the time comes.
